2018 Department of Classics Commencement Ceremony and Lunch

Please join the Stanford Department of Classics for departmental commencement exercises on Sunday, June 17, 2018.  The event will be held at the Centennial Fountain, located outside the entrace of the Bing Wing of Green Library.  Prof. Robert M. Frakes (BA '84) will deliver the commencement address.

Prof. Frakes is Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities (and Professor of History) at California State University, Bakersfield, and he has held the post since 2017. Before that, he was Professor of History and Chair of Social Sciences at Clarion University, where he taught ancient and medieval history for 26 years. He received his BA in Classical Studies from Stanford in 1984, followed by a Master's in Education from the STEP program, where he received Latin and Social Science teaching certifications. He earned his PhD in History from UC Santa Barbara in 1991. He also held an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Fellowship at the Leopold Wenger Institute for Ancient Legal History and Papyrus Research at the University of Munich from 1995–1996.

Schedule:

• 9:30–11:30am: University Commencement (Stanford Stadium)

• 12:00–12:30pm: Departmental reception of hors d'oeuvres and beverages (Centennial Fountain)

• 12:30–1:30pm: Departmental Commencement (Centennial Fountain)

• 1:30–2:30pm: Departmental lunch for graduates and their family and friends (Centennial Fountain)
