Our final CTL workshop of the year will focus on community engagement. As a group, we will brainstorm the types of outreach opportunities best suited to Classics and think about ways to form the most impactful learning partnerships outside of Stanford. We will talk through several outreach teaching situations, including a range of age groups and learning contexts, and discuss how material from Classics might be used successfully in outreach programs. Participants are encouraged (though not required!) to bring any ideas they have for possible outreach courses or curricula. The workshop will be led by Paitra Houts, the director of community engaged learning for education at the HAAS Center for Public Service, Mary Kim, the Cardinal Courses Program Coodinator at the HAAS Center, and Joanne Tien the senior program director of engaged scholarship at the HAAS Center. They will present several examples of outreach that could be well suited to Classical material and will facilitate a discussion while providing advice and suggestions for how to help our ideas come to life.
