Helen Morales (UC Santa Barbara), "Nakedness and protest from Lysistrata to Brexit"

Naked, or semi-naked protests, are becoming increasingly common. Why? This talk explores the role of bodily exposure in protest. It argues that turning to moments of resistance in classical antiquity can help us better understand modern naked protests.

Helen Morales is the Argyropoulos Professor of Hellenic Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and editor of Ramus: Critical Studies in Greek and Roman Literature (CUP).
