Homer and African Archaeological Sites

African archaeological sites have been rarely studied in connection to Classics. In this talk I will address two archaeological sites from Mozambique, Chibuene which belongs to the Swahili world, and Manyikeni which is part of the trade route of Great Zimbabwe. The purpose of yuxtaposing these two realities is to create a 'turn' in the traditional mode of inquiry in Classical studies and to put the discipline in dialogue with other areas of research to which it is not normally related.
