Ruth Webb (Lille), The body of the Pantomime dancer: Between presence and representation

More than any other ancient theatrical form, the pantomime provoked controversy and debate, particularly concerning the identity of the dancer and the impact of the performance on the audience. Prof. Webb suggests that these controversies are closely linked to the nature of the dance itself and to the bodily mimesis which was at the heart of this art.
Prof. Ruth Webb is visiting from Universite Lille 3 and the University Seminars Program of the Onassis Foundation (USA). Prof. Webb's research interests include rhetoric, Greek literature, Ekphrasis, the ancient novel, and Greek and Roman theatre.
