Prof. Suzanne Marchand presents “Appreciating the Art of Others: Josef Strzygowski and the Origins of Non-Western Art History.”
BIOS Workshops are funded from a Geballe Workshop grant from the Stanford Humanities Center.
Suzanne Marchand is LSU System Boyd Professor of History at LSU, where she teaches European intellectual history.  She holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and from the University of Chicago, and is the author of two major books,Down from Olympus: Archaeology and Philhellenism in Germany, 1750-1970 (Princeton University Press, 1996) and German Orientalism in the Age of Empire: Religion, Race, and Scholarship (Cambridge University Press, 2009).
