First Annual Stanford Certamen Invitational in the Books!

Over 25 high school students across California (and Arizona!) came to Stanford to participate in the inaugural Stanford Certamen Invitational, essentially a Classics-themed quiz-bowl tournament. Students played in two divisions, Intermediate and Advanced, similar to many other certamen tournaments and the National Junior Classical League tournament held in the heart of summer.
The topics that were covered throughout the tournament ranged from language and literature to mythology and Roman history. In the Intermediate Division, a one-person team from Classical Homeschool Day prevailed, followed by Harker School and St. Francis Catholic High School.
In the Advanced Division, the wild-card team, consisting from students from Crossroads School, Fairmont Preparatory School, and Marlborough School, took the top prize. Harker School and Phoenix Country Day School were the other two finalists.
Thank you to Valerie, Sumer, and Lina who have spearheaded the conception of this event!
Thank you to all the students, chaperones, volunteers, and everyone who made the event possible! We hope to see you at Stanford next year!
