Pickel wins Mellon Foundation Dissertation Fellowship

Graduate student David Pickel has accepted the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Dissertation Fellowship from Stanford's Humanities Center.  These fellowships are awarded to "advanced doctoral students whose work is of the highest quality" and provide a generous stipend.

David's dissertation research regards the archaeology and history of malaria in ancient Rome, examining in particular the interactions between humans, mosquito vectors, and malaria parasites, and the ways in which the environment, material artifacts, and human practices exposed people in the past to this disease.

A warm congratulations to David for this prestigious fellowship!
