Ariella Goldberg
Ariella Goldberg is a PhD student in Classics on the Ancient History track, specializing in ancient Mediterranean science and technology. Her current research focuses on the role of ancient technical literature in knowledge transmission and systemic application, particularly during the 2nd through 4th-centuries CE. Her MA thesis, which was awarded the Jan Brouwer Thesis Prize, examines Hero of Alexandria’s pneumatic and automatic devices designed for use in temples.
Goldberg's work has been published in the Amsterdam Bulletin of Ancient Studies and Archaeology and the European Journal of Neuroscience. She has a forthcoming chapter (co-authored with Dylan Burns) on late antique natural philosophy in an edited volume from Cambridge University Press.
