Bárbara specializes in Homeric poetry, with interests including oral traditions, Greek philosophy, gender studies, and intercultural dialogue. Her postdoctoral research builds on her 2013 doctoral dissertation from the University of Oviedo (Spain), “Alterity in the Early Days of Western Culture: the Concept of 'the Other' in the Iliad and the Odyssey.” Her work at Stanford was supervised by Richard Martin.

She is currently an independent researcher, and is working on her postdoctoral project called “Exclusion and marginalization in the Greek epic.”
