Lorenzo Salerno

B.A. in Classics, University of Pisa
M.A. in Philology and Ancient History, University of Pisa
2nd Level Master’s Degree in Ancient History and Classical Philology, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa

Lorenzo began his education in Classics in Pisa, where he simultaneously attended the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore for five years (2019-2024), and during two exchange periods at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich (2022) and at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (2024). His main interest is the intersection between ancient philosophy and ancient mathematics, which has led him to study the reception of Euclid in Neoplatonic philosophy, Neo-Pythagoreanism (especially Nicomachus of Gerasa) and Iamblichus, and to write articles on the reception of Euclid’s fifth postulate in Proclus (Studia Graeco-Arabica 2021), on a mathematical passage in Aristotle (The Classical Quarterly 2024), and on the chapter on the Tetrad in the anonymous Theologumena arithmeticae (Studia Graeco-Arabica 2024). However, he has interests in some other Classics fields, including Latin and Greek literature, historical linguistics and ancient Greek grammar.
