How are the symbols of the past reimagined, manipulated, and reused in the present? This talk looks at a number of ways that the Alt-Right has appropriated ancient sayings, symbols, and acronyms for their own purposes. What was the actual context for the fasces, SPQR, ‘Molon Labe,’ white statues, or the torch, and what role does public classics playing in making the public aware of the semiotics of hate?
